Frequently Asked Questions

SWG: Lost Era FAQ

Everything you need to know about how SWG: Lost Era works, from accounts and Jedi to factions and death — straight from the team.

QIs SWG: Lost Era a completely original pre-9 server implementation?

SWG: Lost Era is based on Core3, but substantial work has been done to support the pre-9 client and rebuild systems to function as closely to the pre-9 era as reasonably possible. Our goal is not blind, line-for-line accuracy at the expense of good gameplay. When we find a pre-9 change that does not make sense for the server, we may choose not to implement it solely for the sake of claiming complete accuracy. At the same time, we have restored and developed many features that are true to the pre-9 era while retaining select modern conveniences that our community has grown to appreciate.

QHow many accounts may I have?

Multiple accounts are not permitted. We understand that some households may legitimately have more than one person who wants to play, so exceptions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

QHow many character slots will I be allowed?

Each account will have two character slots at creation. A third, force-sensitive slot, must be unlocked through gameplay.

QIs dual logging permitted?

No. Dual logging is not permitted, players may only have one character logged in at a time.

QWill there be Veteran Rewards?

Veteran Rewards did not exist at this time in the game. We may add some of the items in to be acquired other ways but want to be clear that there will be no anti-decay kits or resource deeds added. For example, you can acquire a Flash Speeder from your faction vendor.

QHow will experience rates work?

Full group XP will be enabled, along with increased XP rates for crafting and entertainer professions.

QHow will PvP flagging work?

SWG: Lost Era will use several forms of temporary enemy flagging, including GTEF, across a variety of scenarios to create a more fluid gameplay experience. This is an MMO, and we understand that players will want to work together and help their friends. Any form of artificial content lockout that prevents players from participating or assisting others is seen as unacceptable game design and will generally be avoided.

QWill my Jedi automatically begin as a Rebel, as they did during pre-9?

No. We feel that forcing every Jedi into a single faction by default would be harmful to the overall gameplay experience. Players will be free to make that decision for themselves.

QIs there anything important I need to know about choosing a faction?

Yes. Accounts on SWG: Lost Era are faction-locked. Whichever faction your first character joins, Rebel or Imperial, every other character on that account must join the same faction or remain neutral. To change to the opposing faction, every character on the account must first return to neutral. Because Jedi cannot surrender individual skill boxes, a factioned Jedi cannot simply return to neutral. Changing sides after factioning your Jedi would require deleting that Jedi, returning your other characters to neutral, and then creating your Jedi again.

QWhat happens when my Jedi dies?

Each Jedi will begin with three clones. Every time your Jedi dies and is forced to clone, one clone will be lost. Once zero clones remain, that Jedi is permanently deceased.

QIs there any way to regain lost clones?

Yes. Because this is a private server rather than a retail server with thousands of active players, we have decided to periodically forgive a Jedi death. When this happens, an eligible Jedi will regain one clone, up to the maximum of three. Permanently deceased Jedi are not eligible to regain clones.

QIs that the exact way permanent death originally worked?

No. We have modernized permanent death into a system that we feel is fair and better suited to the needs of our server. The important part is that permanent death remains a real consequence.

QMy Jedi suffered permanent death. What can I do now? Do I have to complete the unlock process again?

No. You may delete your permanently deceased Jedi, and your Force-sensitive character slot can then be used to create a new one. Be more careful this time — it is a dangerous galaxy.

QHow does the FRS system work?

There was no Force Ranking System during the pre-9 era of Jedi, and as such, there is no traditional FRS system here. We do, however, have a custom Galactic Civil War system that all characters — Jedi or otherwise — are free to participate in.

QSo you're telling me I don't have to PvP to maximize my Jedi?

Correct. You do not have to participate in PvP. You can become the most powerful Jedi possible without ever willingly fighting another player. That does not mean being a Jedi is safe. Players and bounty hunters may still come after you. Gaining visibility can place a bounty on your head, and even equipping a lightsaber will make you vulnerable to attack.

QDid that say kinetic lightsabers and Jedi wearing armor?

That is correct. During the pre-9 era, lightsabers dealt kinetic damage, and we have restored that here. We have also restored the original method used to craft lightsabers. And yes, Jedi wore armor during this time period.

QHow does JTL fit into the server?

It does not. Jump to Lightspeed has been intentionally removed from this version, and there are no plans to implement it as it did not exist at this time. Planetary Maps have been restored to pre9 as well. If JTL is your primary motivation for playing, we suggest looking for an NGE-based server instead.

QWithout JTL, won't starport hopping become tedious? Most players would just create a macro for it anyway. How is this better?

We have connected all starports. You can purchase a regular ticket and fly directly to any planet you wish. You're welcome.

QI was an original pre-9 Jedi. How do I get access to the pre9-Council?

Reach out to the development team with whatever information you can provide about your former character, server, profession, or experience from that era. Where reasonably possible, we will verify those details before granting access. Verified former pre-9 Jedi may be invited to join the pre9-Council, where they can share firsthand knowledge, review restored systems, and help us catch details that patch notes and archived information may have missed. Council membership does not provide special characters, items, powers, or in-game advantages. Trust us, we expect more than one person to claim they were there.

QI'm interested in joining the Development, Administration, CSR, Community Outreach, or Social Media team. How do I apply?

Reach out through Application Form on Discord with a brief introduction, the role you are interested in, any relevant experience, your usual availability, and examples of previous work when applicable. Experience is helpful, but maturity, reliability, good judgment, and a willingness to work within the direction of SWG: Lost Era matter just as much.

QWhat other changes are on the server?

We're glad you asked. You can read the full list of changes and everything else that makes SWG: Lost Era special at swglostera.com/about.php.
